FOOD BUSINESS DETAILS

Connect the food label business statement to real roles

A food label should identify the responsible manufacturer, packer, or distributor using a name and place of business that match the actual commercial arrangement. The wording must not imply the wrong role, and the record behind the label should identify who made, packed, imported, and distributed the released product.

Why this review needs product evidence

A valid company name alone is not enough. Contract manufacturing, private label, co-packing, importing, and fulfillment can involve several entities. The label statement and any qualifying phrase should reflect the supported role, while facility registration, importer responsibilities, and state licenses remain separate operational checks.

Recommended review sequence

  1. Map the legal entities and facilities involved in manufacture, packing, import, ownership, and distribution.
  2. Select the business name supported by contracts and current company records.
  3. Use an appropriate qualifying phrase when the named business is not the manufacturer.
  4. Review street address, city, state, ZIP Code, and any permitted address-listing treatment against current facts.
  5. Check that websites, customer-service details, country-of-origin wording, and marketplace records do not conflict with the package.
  6. Preserve the role decision and reopen it after supplier, importer, or distributor changes.

Evidence to keep with the released label

The review file should contain the manufacturing or co-packing agreement, entity details, place-of-business record, importer and distribution roles, current artwork, and release approval. Keep the address and role as structured data so a later business change can identify every affected SKU.

What the pre-check cannot prove

Typical gaps include naming a brand that is not the responsible business, omitting the qualifying phrase, using an outdated address, or treating an FDA facility registration as approval of the label statement. OCR can locate a printed business block, but a human or verified system record must still connect it to the real role.

Automatic extraction is accepted only when required text is present in two OCR passes, image quality and layout evidence meet the configured threshold, and the submitted product facts agree with the recognized text. Otherwise the upload is rejected for clearer, complete panels. This does not establish population-wide OCR accuracy or regulatory compliance.
